CAF President to visit Ghana for Sly Tetteh Lectures

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Ahmad Ahmad, has been earmarked as the main speaker for the maiden edition of the Alhaji Sly Tetteh Lectures at the Tang Place Hotel in Accra on Friday, September 22, 2017.

The lectures, which are being put together by Sports Life, an amalgamated group of stakeholders in Ghana, is to honour the legacy and the significant role in the development and promotion by the late Alhaji Sly Tetteh.

The lectures, which will be held on the theme: “A Pioneering Force: The Legacy of Sly Tetteh,” will also be graced by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and 1st Vice President of CAF, Mr. Kwasi Nyantakyi, who will act as the main speaker of the lectures.

Other dignitaries expected to attended the lectures are Sierra Leonean FA President, Isha Johansen, and the Benin FA President, Anjorin Moucharafou

Outlining details of the launch on Happy FM in Accra, Ex-National Sports Authority Boss and current Director of Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Mr. Charles Aryeh, said: Alhaji Sly Tetteh’s contribution to Ghana and the African continent by extension is monumental, therefore the need to organise lectures in his memory.

He added that: “This initiative of an annual lecture series in honour of the late Sly Tetteh is long overdue but thanks to SPORTSLIFE, the maiden edition is set to come off on Friday, September 22, 2017. I worked with him closely from the inception of Liberty Professionals and his football administration skills were beyond measure. He changed the fortunes of several footballers and revolutionized the modern game.”

 

“When we reminiscent our first World Cup qualification in 2006, Sly Tetteh readily comes to mind as we mention players like Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Derrick Boateng, Emmanuel Addoquaye Pappoe and John Paintsil,” Mr. Aryeh said on Happy FM.

 

While eulogising the achievements of enviable feats chalked by the late Alhaji Sly Tetteh, former Accra Hearts of Oak Managing Director, who also doubles as an organising committee member in charge of marketing for the lectures, Mr. Neil Armstrong, entreated Ghanaians to rally behind the lectures to trumpet the heroics and impact of Alhaji Sly Tetteh, six years after his demise.

 

The Organising Committee member in charge of Operations and Coordination, Nathaniel Laryea, also revealed that CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, has expressed his elation at being the guest speaker for the maiden edition of The Sly Tetteh Legacy Forum.

“CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, has wholly accepted to join the September 22nd 2017 Lecture Series as the Guest Speaker and has expressed his elation at the opportunity to eulogise his friend Sly Tetteh whom he worked with at Tamale during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. Sierra Leonean FA President, Isha Johansen, and the Benin FA, Anjorin Moucharafou, have all confirmed their active participation in the Legacy Forum because of their close association with Sly Tetteh,” Nat Laryea intimated.

Alhaji Sly, as he is affectionately, called died on September 3, 2011 after years of producing remarkable football talents like current Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, and brother Baffour Gyan, John Paintsil, Addoquaye Pappoe, Kwadwo Asamoah, Derek Boateng and Sulley Muntari, former Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien, among others.
